Back in the good old days, everything was a header file in
/usr/include. =(
Apparently "distutils" is some kind of compatibility package, I
**THINK** I found a version of it in each of the .../lib64/python
directories... I have 0 understanding of how python finds its
dependencies. In ccompiler.py, it just says "import distutils" which is
like #include <distutils.h> which would mean I should look in
/usr/include.... I think I'm trying to use Python 3.13.... The problem
is that when I look at distutils, I find it's a directory (!!!).
/usr/lib/python3.13/site-packages/setuptools/_distutils It has a
ccompiler.py that is extremely terse but does list
get_default_compiler.... I don't know what's up with that underscore, I
tried to import it as _distutils but that failed...
I'm looking at
/usr/lib/python3.13/site-packages/setuptools/_distutils/compilers/C/base.py
and it looks fine.... So I have no idea why this is causing me so much
agony... =(
