Interesting.  I thought the four port card in the NAS box was newer, at
least a little bit anyway.  I may dig around for a card with display
port outputs and see what I can find.  Hopefully something not to old.
I don't need much.  Biggest thing, drivers that work.  ;-)

Be sure to read up on displayports first - multiple monitors are daisy chained. Some monitors have two displayports to allow for daisychaining: PC->DP1 on monitor1, Monitor1 DP2-> Monitor2 DP1. - Not sure what you have but my monitors only have a single DP which is often the case for early generations (if they have them at all) If you don't have such a monitor, you can buy a powered splitter with 2 or 3 ports. This what I use: DP to splitter to two monitors with the on board HDMI port to the third.  X works ok but I do have a few glitches at times with one monitor going black until I restart X and an occasional video pipeline error requiring a restart of the system to fix.  This with an intel video on board system.

And not to forget, monitors are power hungry - my system is currently using ~130w of power to type this email - the PC (low power celeron) accounts for less than 15w of that :)
