I suppose you're referring to 'written' chat. At work, on a local network, I'm using pidgin client with SIPE plugin (x11-plugins/pidgin-sipe ). Works fine to chat with co-workers using Microsoft Lync or Office Communicator. File transfer never worked, though. The server side is Microsoft, I suppose, in any case out of my reach. raffaele
