Is it a WD Caviar Black by any chance? I have vague memories of seeing something saying they don't power off in firmware if unused... Anyway, those UDMA errors are a bigger problem I suspect, as they will slow things down as the disk has to recover from the errors. Are you seeing any of the numbers change as you leave it running?
