hm, if only gtk apps are slow, it is normal - gtk IS slow. Very slow.
But it wasn't noticeable before... It looks as if the several widgets were being shown _before_ the main window...
Search google for gtk and slow and you'll find a lot ;) RenderAccel is set in your xorg.conf - if you have nvidia.
