It appears that you do not have the Via audio chip. You seem to have a Brooktree audio chip. Choosing the Via soundcard was the wrong choice. Rebuild the kernel choosing the Bt878 in make menuconfig and give it another try. Good luck, Mark -- gentoo-user@gentoo.org mailing list
