Hello Patrick, Several things here. The last time I worked on SNMP, I found the news group c.protocols.snmp to be invaluable. Several folks there are developers and are extremely knowledgable about all things related to SNMP. JFFNMS is a really feature rich network monitoring and management system for all sorts of devices connected via networks. The discussion groups really delve into all sorts of issues with SNMP{1,2,3} as related to PHP, Apache, and databases..... I requested JFFNMS, via Bug 92501 be added to protage. It's not finished yet, but there is a skeleton ebuild. It uses 'net-snmp' so this package may do what you want and much, much more..... Last, The O'Reiley's book: 'Essential SNMP' is an excellent resource. My experience is that SNMP is pretty easy to use, but very subtle in the little details of a particular vendor's implementation. If your devices are RS232 based, as serial port sniffer is invaluable. If they are ethernet based devices, use ethereal as it can capture SNMP based packets exclusively for your perusal. Hopes these resources help. James -- gentoo-user@gentoo.org mailing list
