Hello Colin,

I have not worked on 802.11... under 2.6 kernel yet (same old excuses).
However I have some old resources that may help you find a wireless product
with a chipset that the driver works. Under 2.4 kernels, I had the best luck
looking for wireless devices that had the underlying chipset which was support.
This means you have have to take your portable into the store of your choice
and see if you can make the card work. ATMEL chipsets seem to have the
best support, but lately ATMEL is a real pain in the _ _ _ with datasheets
on the newest wireless chipsets...

Here are some resouces that may or maynot help you as some are only for 2.4:
http://at76c503a.berlios.de/devices.html
http://sourceforge.net/projects/atmelwlandriver
http://sourceforge.net/projects/madwifi
http://www.linux-wlan.org

and the best place to look for (linux) supported wireless ethernet devices is:

www.tuxmobil.org

hope these help,
James
