Drew, It may depend a lot on whuch kernel revision you are configuring. I just looked in my current Gentoo-Sources kernel (2.6.11-gentoo-r6) and I don't see any Advansys. However I know there used to be some Advansys stuff because I used to have one.
Which kernel are you using? This may be one of those cases where something useful has been left out, or maybe it was dropped for a reason. If that's the case then you may need ot go back to an earlier kernel for awhile. Is there any chance you can place the install on an internal EIDE drive, at least until you get this ironed out?Without any driver support it will be quite difficult to get this working.
