I will try. BTW on the kernel mailinglist I found some evidence that 2.6 may
have disk performance problems, compared with 2.4.

I wonder if there's a way to switch back to kernel 2.4 with Gentoo 2005.0.

'acpi=off noapic' has no effect, either.
