Most I can get is:
279 frames in 5.0 seconds = 55.800 FPS

Most I get with fgl_glxgears is:
106 frames in 5.0 seconds = 21.200 FPS

So the fact fgl_glxgears does run here must mean DRI is running. Why then
can't I even get close to the numbers your getting? I'm only getting
approximately 1% maybe 2% the FPS your getting.

This is a P4 Pentium 2.4Ghz for Christ sake. The ATI card is 128Mb of
325Mhz DDR memory and 532Mhz core speed. It's like greased lightening
running in Windows XP (Scuse language), why can't I get reasonable speed in
Gentoo?

I'm pretty certain your PC isn't 99 times faster than this one?

I thought I'd cracked it today, I've not even got my key in the ignition
let alone got the engine running and joined the race.
