Well, the 2.6 kernels includes all the latest i2c modules, so you will 
need only the i2c userspace tools.

This is generic instructions.........
Download lm_sensors-2.8.3.tar.gz and extract it, cd into the directory,
type 
make user && make user_install

Now please make sure sysfs is mounted,
I had to load these modules
i2c-nforce2
w83781d

to acess the sensors on the Asus a7n8x

Now run sensors 
and you should get a listing.
