OK,

'lsof | grep /mnt' returns:
fam 801 goran 37r DIR 22,0 2048 411422720
/mnt/cdrom

But I suppose I need this one. Don't I?

Well, from the man page it sounds to me like 'fam' is some kind of monitor program to check for file changes. Probably it has been startet by mozilla when you where visiting the cd.
I think it should be save to kill the process which locks the cd.
Anyhow it would be nice if someone could jump in to enlighten us in the behaviour of fam (in the standard settings fam should release the file after 5 sec. if no client is using it, so there must be some program which still has a connection open)?

It happens from time to time, that I mount the CD, use it, close all

try 'lsof' to find out which program has files open on the cd.
