emerge adsl-setup adsl-setup (I'm not sure if I have the name right, but it's something like that.) I set up a connection at home a couple of weeks ago. I seem to recall that man pages were helpful. If you have a firewall in place your connection to the outside world will be ppp0 instead of the ethernet card.
I put adsl-start in local.start. Oh yes, you shouldn't start the ethernet card connected to your adsl modem. Let adsl-start handle that. I apologize if I got anything wrong.
