I'm surprised no one mentioned emacs(???). I'm not a vi(m) OR emacs person. I'm explicitely a vi(m) AND emacs user. Things that I have enjoyed using emacs for as a combination shell/email client to capture editable screen output (from the shell <alt-x shell> that I can then run commands and copy and paste selected output into an email (ctl-x mail) for submitting errata to a mailing list or fellow admin. I also enjoy the way it handles cutting and pasting and recording macros easier. One other minor thing that I have been grateful for is that from learning that the readline characteristics of bash supports the keyboard navigation and cut and paste keystrokes from emacs. Hence, if I want to cut a portion of a recent command line, I just position the cursor before where I want to start, press ctl-k, and then ctl-y to paste that portion back. Finally, I _really_ enjoy using the emacs key command ctl-r to conduct a reverse search through the command history (I use this heavilly :-).
