AFAIK, the status is "unimplemented, and nobody's working on it".

I believe that the reason is simply that nobody has done the work yet,
not due to bikeshedding.

I agree that these should be implemented at a rate faster than the
current one (i.e. not at all).

(FYI, you spelled "improvements" wrong. ;)
