I just added sci-mathematics/bertini to the tree.  I talked to the
upstream developers the other day and their main concern is somebody
taking the code and making money with it.  Another concern is that
changed versions of the source code may give incorrect results and ruin
their reputation.  I personally would say that the GPL would protect
them, but in the end it is their choice.

They assured me that the relation to distributions is a friendly one and
they welcome bug reports and patches upstream.
