The only uses I have seen for cpio are: 1. Working with initramfs archives Genkernel already has the correct dep. Does dracut need it? 2. Extracting rpm files (rpm2cpio) rpm.eclass depends on rpm2targz, which depends on cpio, so this looks ok.
