If it is self-maintained ebuild, it depends on complexity of
it. Currently I have one application outside the portage tree and
I found out to easier/less time consuming to just install it directly
from .tar.gz rather then maintaining an ebuild.

I plan to make an ebuild for it and submit, but probably I'll not have
time to maintain it.
