I do. Almost always in fact. When I want to install a package, I use --ask 
with --verbose so I get the --pretend output, and if I agree with the 
proposed list of dependencies and USE-flags, I allow it to proceed with just 
two keystrokes instead of having to go back up, change the command, and wait 
the extra time for it to recalculate the dependencies.

Not a huge savings, but I do use it, and I would expect news items to be 
displayed right before the prompt where I can't miss them
