If you really, really need something you can probably just handle in your .xinitrc or .Xdefaults. If neither of those will work create a barebones config with "X -configure" and add the minimum to it. xorg.conf behaves just like an attic: it accumulates things that noone wants to throw out becuse they "might be useful".
