I updated to dev-texlive/texlive-latex-2008-r1 on May 29 without incident. /var/lib/texmf/ls-R exists and was modified on May 29. Its contents are what its name implies. equery belongs /var/lib/texmf/ls-R returns a null result. It would be interesting to know what equery on your system thinks of it. I guess that no ownewrship implies some error in some ebuild. You could move the file to a safe place and re-try the emerge, checking to see if the file gets re-created. Dave F
