Dear Roman and Apache Incubator community, As the chairperson of Apache MADlib PMC, I want to express my full support for the Apache Cloudberry proposal. I believe this project presents a crucial opportunity for the open-source MPP database community, particularly in light of recent developments.
I'd like to add some context regarding MADlib: - I support the recommendation of moving the Apache MADlib project under the Apache Cloudberry umbrella. This closer collaboration is imperative for growing the Cloudberry Database community and ensuring MADlib's continued development and relevance. - Recently, the majority of previous Greenplum participants have resigned from the Apache MADlib project. While I fully respect any limitations they may have in discussing their decisions publicly, this change underscores the need for a new direction and community support for MADlib. - The proposed consolidation with Cloudberry could provide a path forward for MADlib, potentially attracting new contributors and re-engaging the broader MPP analytics community. I believe this integration aligns well with the goals outlined in the Cloudberry proposal, particularly the aim to coalesce existing communities from projects like Apache MADlib and Apache HAWQ. It presents an opportunity to create a more comprehensive, open-source MPP analytics ecosystem. I look forward to exploring how MADlib can contribute to and benefit from the Cloudberry project. This collaboration could significantly strengthen the open-source offering in the MPP database space, especially in light of Greenplum's move to a closed-source model. I'm eager to discuss this further and contribute to the incubation process.
