Assuming the XML source files are kept up to date, but I think most of them are not. Your suggestion elsethread to use the http://svn.apache.org/repos/asf/incubator/public/trunk/content/podlings/ data makes more sense to me but we'd need to find out what breaks if we move out the http://svn.apache.org/repos/asf/incubator/public/trunk/content/projects/ XML files.
