I looked for a long time and was unable to find an open version of either
Blippo Black or its close cousin Bauhaus bold/heavy.
IMO, changing the typeface to anything other than Blippo or Bauhaus represents
a graphical identity change. The goal of this logo retooling is to keep the
identity intact but avoid the conspicuous amateurism of the current graphic.
Leading an Incubator logo redesign-by-committee effort is a task for someone
more masochistic than me. ;)
So, while I agree that it would be nice to use an open font, at least we
aren't any worse off than we were before, and IMO it's not worth opening a can
of worms by proposing a typeface change.

Your instincts are good. However, this file is designed to be a drop-in
replacement for the current logo file. Removing the black border or changing
its weight would change how the graphic interacts with surrounding elements --
think of it as an incompatible API modification.
