Lets say the status is currently some kind of closed beta. Its currently under heavy discussion so it might take a while until people actually can use it. If you like, you can express your interest in GIT in the proposal (at the subversion url) but you should not expect this will happen to soon. Anyway, lets wait for a few days until the git discussion have settled down before we vote.
