Lucy's target (building a technically strong C core that dynamic languages can cleanly bind to) is an excellent and sorely needed one; I think it's likely that some day Lucy's usage will eclipse Lucene-java's (as dynamic languages overtake static languages). Lucy's existence has also been awesome for Lucene java's development: the two projects play off against one another, in healthy "coopetition", resulting in strong cross-fertilization. Many deep technical discussions, either on Lucy's lists or Lucene's, have lead to important improvements in Lucene (eg the cutover to segment-based search, in Lucene 2.9). I very much want to see Lucy succeed; I think incubation is the right next step, and I'll do whatever I can to make this work!
