Sorry, to bother you here, but I don't believe, that you have a choice. An Apache releases consists of source code. Binary artifacts are just an "add on bonus". I can ping Roy on that subject if you beg to differ. ;-)
However, as (at least for the Java part), all source code is available as source jars, this is good enough for me. It might not be good enough for others, though.
