The derby-dev list is trying to figure what to do with a contribution that is being offered by two students: http://www.nabble.com/Apache-Derby-Management-Tool-td18931716.html#a18931716 The students have written a GUI tool for administering Derby databases and servers. There is some concern that Derby itself is not the right community to host this tool because Derby's charter explicitly discourages GUI contributions: http://db.apache.org/derby/derby_charter.html#Database+Technology However, in the past our user community has shown a fair amount of interest in GUI tools.

Would it make sense to try to incubate a separate, related community around this contribution? Or is it premature to approach the incubator with a body of code that only has two developers?

Thanks for your thoughts...
