Below is uima website that uses the same pattern you mentioned, altough the folder names are docs and xdocs. https://svn.apache.org/repos/asf/incubator/uima/site/trunk/uima-website/ It's also good to mention that currently couple podlings are starting to use wiki as the source for the website, and in the case of confluence, using the html-export plugin to export the wiki contents to html.
