We are looking forward to close collaboration with other projects at the
ASF. For example, the seed code already makes extensive use of Axis 1
and we want to upgrade that to work well with Axis 2 and Synapse; we
currently integrate with Tomcat and would like to extend that to
Geronimo and Felix. We'd welcome involvement from those communities and
hope to contribute to them as well.

What we think is unique about Tuscany though is the focus on large scale
heterogeneous systems. As SOA takes off, some of the greatest
challenges people will face are integrating and managing the services
that comprise them. ESBs like Synapse will play an essential role but
people will need to deal with existing non-WS based services and
non-XML data formats. One of the technical goals of the project is to
provide the framework for pulling those together.

Ultimately though, I think we will truly succeed if we build a healthy,
dynamic and open community where these people can come together. The
technology framework may provide the focal point but people using it and
sharing experiences will be the greatest benefit.
