Proposal:
1 - every project site sources stay in the project CVS
sure.
2 - every project has this URL space where to publish the site:
http://incubator.apache.org/projectname
+1 (or under the wings of their TLP if they wish)
3 - every project has an incubation status file under
http://incubator.apache.org/projects/projectname.html
(note that this removes the projects/projectname/status.html URL)

4 - every project has eventual extra incubation docs under:
http://incubator.apache.org/projects/projectname/**
doubt we'll need many :D
5 - the project sites are published by committing the results in the incubator-site CVS under
incubator-site/build/site/projectname/**
works well.
Now to me it seems that all is ok except point 5. Specifically, imagine that all out projects use Maven for site building, and that all publish their project reports daily. Then imagine the *loads* of dirs and commit messages. In this case, oversight == 0.
I doubt that's an issue. If people use maven or forrest, the commits to monitor are those
to the source files. Also, imagine people being smart and using cvs import (just one
commit message per import), or mail readers being smart and filtering out these commit
messages.
The only use of CVS would be to keep history and be able to get the site running if it was accidentally defaced.
what I like about keeping a site in cvs is that you can use the same tools for website management
we use for code management. Reduces the number of tools. Good.
Should we disable CVS commit mails for the incubator-site module?
imho, no. But I wouldn't mind, either.
Would the fabulous SVN help in this respect?
guess it sure could, but see comment on number of tools.
Would instead committing tarballs good enough?
why would you want to do that?
What about committing to CVS only the main site and publishing other reports directly?
what do you mean by 'directly'? People using ssh to log in to minotaur and have them generate the documentation there?
Is the above issue a non-issue?
I think so. Some projects need to get off their %@&* and invest the effort to properly set up their site.
Ideas?
