Hi Markus!
Thanks for your detailed information!
I was trying to download the RPMs
https://copr.fedorainfracloud.org/coprs/neteler/GDAL/ on a CentOS 7
distribution with the given installation instruction (sudo wget -O
/etc/yum.repos.d/gdal-copr.repo
https://copr.fedoraproject.org/coprs/neteler/GDAL/repo/epel-7/neteler-GDAL-epel-7.repo)
but was getting an 404.
I'm pretty new to the packaging & building RPM topic but will continue
looking into it. Therefore, I think I won't clone your repo for now but
maybe in the future :)
Best
Roman

Dear all!
We are currently trying to build a GDAL/OGR installation (version >=3.1) for
our server which operates on RedHat 7.9 (RHEL).
I have some experience with building GDAL on Ubuntu but have no working
workflow for RHEL as the required packages and header files (e.g. gdal-libs,
gdal-libs-devel, python-devel etc.) are not available for recent GDAL versions
via yum.
I created an RPM some time ago:
https://copr.fedorainfracloud.org/coprs/neteler/GDAL/
Problem 1: Does anyone have experience with building GDAL (version >=3.1) on
RHEL?
If I find the time I could try to package something more recent (feel
free to clone my COPR repo and take over).
We want to build with Python bindings and some non-default drivers (e.g. GPKG
(raster), JP2OpenJPEG, MBTILES, WMS/WCS).
This would require more work, i.e. create other COPRs for these dependencies.
As a start, you may pick the respective SPEC files from
- https://src.fedoraproject.org/rpms/gdal/
- https://copr.fedorainfracloud.org/coprs/neteler/openjpeg2/
- https://koji.fedoraproject.org/koji/buildinfo?buildID=563127
- etc.
Best,
Markus
