Hi again, to get to know GDAL codebase better I chose ticket #5035 (https://trac.osgeo.org/gdal/ticket/5035<https://trac.osgeo.org/gdal/ticket/5035)>)<https://trac.osgeo.org/gdal/ticket/5035)>.
I've implemented a configuration setting that allows to work with Shape-files that are missing SHX index file. If SHX is missing or corrupted and user supplied this config, SHX will be created. I've started a pull-request here: https://github.com/OSGeo/gdal/pull/104 Hope it makes sense, please let me know if I can improve it somehow. Alexander
