The project unfortunately did not succeed. I do not think there are any publicly available useful partial results which I can point to. Nevertheless, if you have any specific question about the problem, feel free to ask. I do intend to propose it as a good GSoC project next year again (assuming I'll be in charge, GCC gets accepted and so forth...). And since we can now propose both big and small project, in fact are encouraged to, it is likely going to be one of very few small ones we can think of. Martin
