Hello,

GCC is well into stage 1 for GCC 4.8, but I haven't seen any proposals
for targets to be deprecated.
All 32-bit Sun Microsystems sun4m systems such as the old
SPARCstation 20 and 10 units. These are still running out there
however Solaris 9 was the last OS to support them. All support for
Solaris 9 has dropped into "legacy" mode from Oracle. I think all
support for sun4d and sun4c was dropped a long time ago in the GCC
project and if not, then they should be. The 64-bit systems such
as Sun Ultra 1 upwards still have life in them and they will run
either 32-bit Solaris 8 and 9 or 64-bit Solaris 8 and 9. Some
people have run Solaris 10 also which is purely a 64-bit kernel.

In any case, those are just my thoughts on old legacy Sun gear.
I won't argue about 32-bit Solaris or Sun hardware except
to ask about sparc-linux wanting it.

But the space community uses the 32-bit SPARC ERC32
and LEON series of CPUs. These are not running Solaris
and so dropping SPARC v7/v8 support would be bad.
I know sparc-rtems and sparc-elf have users and
test results get reported.

Dropping old sparc-solaris support won't let the sparc
backend shrink like the HPPA one.
