I would believe that it is the wrong place to install such a file. (In
particular it makes ldconfig unhappy, when /usr/local/lib/lib64 is
scanned).
In what way does it make ldconfig unhappy? My /usr/lib directory has a
number of files which are not shared libraries.
ldconfig gives me:
ldconfig: /usr/local/lib/lib64/libstdc++.so.6.0.12-gdb.py is not an ELF
file - it has the wrong magic bytes at the start.
Ok, it still does something sensible.
But I still believe a python script for a future gdb could go elsewhere.
regards.
