For the record, this is non-hypothetical. It happened to me a few weeks ago - if I'd been bootstrapping in a combined tree, stage1 gcc would have miscompiled stage2 as which would have misassembled stage2 gcc. -- Daniel Jacobowitz CodeSourcery
