I would be very happy if we could fold back many of the differences
between pristine Libtool and GCC's version back into Libtool proper.

I realize Libtool's side has not been the easiest on GCC demands in
the past. Personally, I am quite happy to re-think some of the
decisions made, but I am not alone. Also, Libtool's pace of development
does not match that of GCC, unfortunately.

Regarding Fortran 90/95, there is a proposed patch for support, albeit
for branch-2-0/HEAD only.

Just to make you aware before they hit you: some of the patches GCC
Libtool incorporated were only put in branch-2-0 or HEAD of Libtool,
so they won't be present in 1.5.18.

(shameless plug: it would be really cool if PR 5291 could be fixed
eventually. I wonder if the idea at the end of [1] could work, but I
really don't know enough about GCC yet to try it out.)

Regards,
Ralf
