Indeed: at least for a Solaris 10/x86 multilib configuration, the native as
doesn't work yet, and even if running 32-bit only with --disable-multilib,
one needs the still unreviewed patch

for bootstrap to succeed.
Unfortunately, I have no idea of the exact requirements from ld to develop
a configure check myself.
