This -auxbase-strip argument is introduced by the gcc driver that runs lto1, based on the -o (tmp ltrans .o) argument, but this driver has no clue as to the executable name or location, and there's nothing whatsoever in the driver interface that enables aux_base_name to be located separately from the output name.
