It seems that if you have a template class derived from another template
class, that the derived class can not access the super-class protected
members.

I've put a short code segment below. It compiles and works as expected using
gcc 2.95.2, 3.2.3, 3.3.2, and 3.3.5.  It doesn't compile using gcc 3.4.0 or
3.4.3.  The error is:

try-derive-temp.C: In member function `void Bar<T, S>::derivedSetT(const T&)':
try-derive-temp.C:25: error: `_t' undeclared (first use this function)
try-derive-temp.C:25: error: (Each undeclared identifier is reported only once
for each function it appears in.)

(_t is a protected member of the base class - it doesn't matter if _t is
made public, or if it is a template type or an intrinsic)

I'd appreciate being cc'ed on any discussion of this bug report, since I'm
not on any gcc mailing lists.

How-To-Repeat:

Here is the try-derive-temp.ii file from:

g++ -save-temps -o try-derive-temp try-derive-temp.C

however, it appears to be a compiler problem - using g++ 3.4.3 to compile
the .ii file that was created by g++ 3.3.5 has the same error, and using
g++ 3.3.5 to compile 3.4.3's .ii file works as expected.

Here is the unpreprocessed code:

#include <stdio.h>

template <class T>
class Foo
{
  public:
    Foo(const T& t) { setT(t); }

    void setT(const T& t) { _t = t; }
    const T& getT() const { return _t; }

  protected:
    T _t;
};

template <class T, class S>
class Bar : public Foo<T>
{
  public:
    Bar(const T& t, const S& s) : Foo<T>(t) { setS(s); }

    void setS(const S& s) { _s = s; }
    const S& getS() const {return _s; }

    void derivedSetT(const T& t) { _t = t; }

  protected:
    S _s;
};

int main(int argc, char *argv[])
{
  Bar<int, float> b1(1, 1.5), b2(2, 2.5);

  printf("b1 is %d, %f, b2 is %d, %f\n",
      b1.getT(), b1.getS(), b2.getT(), b2.getS());

  b1.setT(10); // call the base class setT method
  b2.setT(20);

  printf("b1 is %d, %f, b2 is %d, %f\n",
      b1.getT(), b1.getS(), b2.getT(), b2.getS());

  b1.derivedSetT(100); // call the derived class setT method
  b2.derivedSetT(200);

  printf("b1 is %d, %f, b2 is %d, %f\n",
      b1.getT(), b1.getS(), b2.getT(), b2.getS());

  return 0;
}
