With the message in the .log being:
collect2: ld terminated with signal 11 [Segmentation fault]

Last known to work on: "Mon Nov 22 18:29:28 UTC 2004".

Yes this *is* a binutils bug (unless of course it's because ld
is miscompiled with the system compiler).  I just want it noted
for simplicity in the gcc bugzilla together with all other gcc FAILs,
so all FAILs are searchable here.
There were no applicable binutils updates in this time-frame; changes
in gcc supposedly trigged the bug.
