The original issue is now fixed for GCC 16.

The 15 regression noted in comment 1 was fixed by
r15-9680-g53690a84a35b905403126be66210d21e89f53ac6, the testcase in comment 0
doesn't appear to have worked in 14 so wasn't a regression.
