I am taking this one over from Richard because I have posted a first part and a
patch in the pipeline.

Which moves the optimization from strlen and it is very similar to what Richard
did in comment #1.
The second part is going to be PR 121714 which is comment #1 "Possibly we could
consider vector modes / compares (for greater size)".
The third part which I might not get to until next year will be the non power
of 2 sizes.
