I can reproduce this on mainline, gfortran 16.

gfc_typenode_for_spec (gfc_typespec * spec, int codim)
{
  tree basetype;

  switch (spec->type)
    {
    case BT_UNKNOWN:
      gcc_unreachable ();

The spec type is unknown.
