I think this should be transferred over to binutils, since I was told my patch
in the driver wasn't desired anyway, and the specific issue doesn't show up
when using other linkers. Whether it's worth doing something for the cases of
`gcc -c file1.c -o file2.c` or others with -S and -E is a different issue, and
a separate bug should be filed for that, if it's desired to do anything.
I am no longer working on this.
