I must admit that I had totally forgotten about this PR. I am not sure what state it is in now. I doubt if it is important for gcc-7 anymore, and I have no idea how relevant it is to gcc-8 or -9. Probably the easiest thing to do would be to close it and let it be reopened if anyone cares enough to do so.
