This is not related, but I noticed that the problem would not have been exposed except for the code coming in to the SLSR patch containing a degenerate PHI with only one incoming arc. I don't recall seeing that in the past. Do we need some cleanups upstream? (I haven't yet investigated where it was introduced.)
