I ran into this overnight testing a follow-up patch. When I analyzed the
failure last night I figured it probably could be triggered without the
follow-up patch.
The real fix is revamping a bit of the path management in the backwards
threader. But there's a bandaid I can apply in the more immediate term until I
can do that bit of revamping.
